Intellectual Property Presentation & Laughing Yoga Class

On Thursday, November 29th, ActivEntrepreneur invited Betty Tufariello, an intellectual property attorney from Intellectulaw, to speak about “What business owners need to know about intellectual property in order to grow their business.”  Betty spoke about all aspects of intellectual property law including patents, copyrights, trademarks, and trade secrets.  Many business owners do not realize that they need (and why they need) a trademark or copyright.  Patents must be a process, machine, mechanical device or composition of matter.  Trademarks are inherently distinctive, suggestive, descriptive or generic.

Betty works with her clients to really understand their whole business in order to effectively protect their intellectual property. She advised our entrepreneurs to ensure that their intellectual property attorney really gets to know their business and their business vision/goals before they submit any intellectual property paperwork.

After we learned about intellectual property from Betty, we moved into our Laughing Yoga Session.  I always knew that it felt great to laugh but I never realized what a great workout it is to laugh.  The maintenance staff at the school we held the event at probably thought we were crazy with all the laughter that was coming from the room we were in — but I have to say that it was a lot of FUN!  By the end of the laughing yoga session, we were extremely relaxed and happy.  Laughing yoga is definitely something you should try – it may seem a little strange in the beginning but then it becomes contagious.  You will definitely have a lot of fun. Eileen Kascinski was our laughing yoga instructor.

I attended this meeting and I must say, I got a lot out of both parts of the event. Betty really made me think about my business, how to protect myself, etc. Sometimes we’re so busy just doing our thing that we don’t take time to look at the possibilities. I have people sign waivers before I work with them, but not for everything I do with them, I guess it’s time to re-think this area of my business.

Eileen got us laughing alright, she gets your body moving as well, and before I knew it, I had “Laugh Face” I couldn’t stop! This felt soooo gooood! The holidays can be so hectic, it was the perfect time to insert “a little” – “a lot” – of laughter! It truly is the best medicine. Plus the guided visualization at the end was great, I was in another world!
